Inter-Nationals set to launch financial wellbeing podcast for immigrants - here is how you can contribute.
Moving to a new country can be very exciting yet challenging; challenging because there is so much to be learnt, and many become stuck in the survival cycle due to knowledge gap. The poverty gap in Norway is increasing and according to a Statistics Norway (SSB) report, 4 in 10 immigrant children in Norway live in poverty. These statistics are not surprising considering that many immigrants face significant barriers in accessing and using various financial services in Norway. Even for those who are financially literate, it still takes some time to learn the systems in Norway.
At Inter-Nationals, we are very passionate about accelerating the integration process and supporting immigrants to thrive in the Norwegian society. One of the ways we do that is through our Knowledge Centre where we partner with individuals and corporate organisations to co-create and share knowledge that empower immigrants in Norway to maximize their potentials.
We are very pleased to announce that, thanks to our strategic partnership with The Oslo Desk and seed support from two financial institutions (to be announced later), we have started production of the first season of our financial inclusion podcast tentatively called – Every Krone Matters.
This project is such where everyone can contribute.
Every Krone Matters is a financial inclusion and wellbeing podcast series that aims to help immigrants to build the five competencies of financial literacy – earn, save, invest, spend, borrow, and protect – and apply this knowledge to effectively manage their resources for a lifetime of financial well-being in Norway.
We know that many immigrants already have financial literacy competencies before moving to Norway, that is why our focus in this podcast is on local context i.e., financial rules, product, services, tools etc. that are available and applicable to Norway. By interviewing subject experts using easy-to-understand financial terms, Every Krone Matters will empower immigrants with the local knowledge and skills to create, grow and protect their wealth in Norway.
Financial inclusion is key to integration. In the first season of Every Krone Matters, we will touch upon topics such as pension, employment rights, angel investment, tax system, understanding the national budget, buying a house, consumer protection, personal loans, financial impact of divorce, life and non-life insurance, death and inheritance, guardianship laws etc.
Each episode of the podcast will last for between 45 to 60 minutes, and we will include the Norwegian words for key terms related to each topic. This way, we hope we can make it easier for people to conduct further research.
Many Norwegians and established immigrants often ask us how they can support new immigrants, especially when they are not in a position to offer a job. This project is such where everyone can contribute. You could:
- Be a guest or tag someone who should be our guest: We are looking for professionals in the aforementioned topic areas. Tag someone in your network who has expertise in any of these topics and we will follow up with them. The interviews can be in our Oslo studio or via video call – so thanks to technology, distance is no barrier.
- Suggest topics that you want to learn about: Are there more topics that you would love to learn about? You can send us topic suggestions by writing in the comment section or filling this simple form.
- Become a co-host: If you are passionate about financial inclusion, have a background in finance and are happy to engage experts on these topics, then you could be the co-host we are looking for. Reach out to the Project Manager, Ejiro Iluore, by sending an email to contactus@inter-nationals.com
